Australia Day Breakfast and Activities Tennant Creek

Celebrate Australia Day with an outback breakfast and joining the fun of unique Australian novelty sporting events at Tennant Creek. On 26 January the nation celebrates what's great about being Australian with official and formal functions as well as fun activities with family and friends. The 'Golden Heart' town of Tennant Creek celebrates all day starting early with the official flag raising and singing of the National Anthem. Then join participants to dine on a generous outback 'Aussie breakfast'. Refuelled and ready for some fun, head out to nearby Tingkkarli/Lake Mary Ann to compete in a range of very Australian activities, including egg catching, sack races and thong throwing. The highlight of the day is a raft race on the lake. The Australia Day Barkly Triathlon is run on and around the lake and afterwards there's a free barbecue for everyone to enjoy.

Barkly Goldrush Campdraft Challenge

See horsemen, rough riders and cowboys going through their paces at the annual Barkly Goldrush Campdraft Challenge in Tennant Creek. A family event held each October, the challenge includes both day and night activities. Don't miss the bull and bronco riding, barrel racing, the stockman's challenge and campdrafting events. Everything you need for a weekend of country fun is available, with bars, food and camping on-site. As well as seeing daredevil events in the main arena, you can dance the night away to live music on Friday night.
